The 2023 Energy Efficiency Programs Update tracks energy efficiency program outcomes at a provincial/territorial level, providing resources to policymakers and energy efficiency professionals. It is an interim report for Efficiency Canada’s Canadian Energy Efficiency Scorecard, which was adapted to a biennial schedule. The publication of the full Scorecard will be in 2024.

🔑 Key insights: 

• Total spending on energy efficiency programs increased by 8% over 2021
• Total energy savings fell by 7% over 2021. 
• Spending on low income programs increased across the country due in part to spending increases in Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.  
• A review of energy efficiency savings targets shows some jurisdictions aim to exceed 1% savings/sales in the next three years.
