The Path to Net Zero Concrete
University of Alberta University (Faculty) Club 11435 Saskatchewan Drive, Edmonton, AB, CanadaJoin us for dinner and presentation for the 2024/25 CSCE Edmonton season at the University Club!Project Profile:Concrete, the second most used substance in the world after water, is integral to the built environment due to its durability and resilience. However, it is also a major contributor to embodied carbon emissions, accounting for 50-60% of material-based emissions in some structures. The production of cement, the essential binder in concrete, is responsible for up to 90% of these emissions. Heidelberg Materials is at the forefront of efforts to revolutionize the industry by addressing the carbon footprint of cement. Our carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS) project aims to significantly reduce the environmental impact of cement production, heralding a transformative shift towards sustainability in construction. With CCUS technology, the cement industry is on the verge of a shift, making net zero cement a reality. The innovation will pave the way for net zero concrete, representing a crucial step in reducing embodied carbon emissions in buildings and infrastructure projects. We invite you to join us for a session that will illustrate the future of net zero cement. Discover how we can build not just structures, but a legacy of environmental stewardship. Be part of this […]
