Decarbonizing and Electrifying Buildings with Hydronic HVAC Systems As the push toward net-zero buildings intensifies, hydronic HVAC systems are emerging as a key solution for reducing emissions and enabling full electrification. This session will explore how evolving building design standards are shaping the future of HVAC. Attendees will examine the theoretical and real-world performance of hydronic systems, with a focus on their energy efficiency and carbon reduction potential. The presentation will also highlight the latest technologies, system components, and control strategies supporting all-electric designs. Registration is now open for the 2025 MCEE Expo, taking place at the Palais des congrès de Montreal from April 24 to 25. As Canada’s largest HVAC, plumbing, electrical and lighting expo, the event will feature more than 300 exhibitors from across the country and the U.S. The event will feature product presentations, skills competitions and recreational activities focused on sustainable innovation, energy-efficient technologies and renewable energy trends. The MCEE Expo is organized by the Canadian Institute of Plumbing & Heating (CIPH), the Corporation of Master Pipe Mechanics of Quebec (CMMTQ), the Corporation of Master Electricians of Quebec (CMEQ) and the Corporation des entreprises en traitement de l’air et du froid (CETAF), in collaboration with Electro Federation Canada (EFC). The Glebe Community Association’s Environment Committee is hosting a Tour of Heat Pumps in the Glebe on Saturday, May 10, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. This event offers Ottawa residents a chance to visit homes with installed heat pumps, learn from homeowners’ experiences, and get answers to their questions about heat pump technology, installation, and incentives. Attendees will tour different home types—from row houses to multi-unit buildings—featuring various heat pump models. The tour runs from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., with a guided or self-guided option. It concludes with a Q&A session at the Glebe Community Centre from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., where experts from Electrify613, EnviroCentre, and Hydro Ottawa will address installation tips, rebates, and the future of electrification. Registration is required via Eventbrite, and space for the Q&A session is limited to 75 attendees.
