The ability of district energy systems to utilize low-carbon energy sources and contribute to reducing peak electricity demand, among other benefits (e.g. reliability, improved thermal comfort), has resulted in its positioning as a key strategy in municipal climate action plans. The private sector has and will continue to play a critical role in implementing low carbon district energy systems in Ontario. At the same time, local governments are uniquely positioned to advance low carbon district energy systems through setting policy, land use planning functions, facilitating financing, and as providers of infrastructure.
The Low Carbon District Energy Workshop is a collaboration of the Centre for Community Energy Transformation (CCET), The Royal Danish Consulate General in Toronto, and Peel Region.
