Elle a écrit des textes pour de nombreuses entreprises et publications, et défendu le développement durable et la responsabilité environnementale dans le cadre de son travail journalistique et d’initiatives de marketing. Elle espère surtout faire partie de la solution dans le cadre de son rôle à Efficacité énergétique Canada, et contribuer à changer la donne dans l’économie et l’environnement du Canada. En dehors du travail, Aidan lit, écrit, prépare des condiments fermentés avec son mari et s’occupe de son bambin.

Kelsey Brasil est gestionnaire de projets à Efficacité énergétique Canada. Originaire de l’Ontario, elle est tombée amoureuse d’Halifax pendant ses études sur le développement durable et la planification à l’Université Dalhousie, et elle a décidé de s’installer sur la côte est. Avant de se joindre à nous, Kelsey a géré Écoles vertes N.-É., le programme de sensibilisation communautaire d’Efficacité Nouvelle-Écosse qui fait découvrir aux élèves des comportements écoénergétiques qu’ils peuvent adopter pour protéger notre planète. L’efficacité énergétique s’est très vite imposée comme un objectif de carrière, une fois que Kelsey a vu les façons dont elle pousse les jeunes à agir, et aide les Canadiens à économiser et à payer leurs factures, et les solutions qu’elle apporte à la crise climatique.
Kelsey adore susciter des changements, en établissant des contacts et des partenariats significatifs. Dans le cadre de son initiative Let’s Sprout, elle conçoit des programmes destinés à aider les gens à repenser le monde et à réclamer des mesures en faveur d’une justice sociale et environnementale.
Dans ses temps libres, Kelsey campe dans les bois, escalade des parois rocheuses ou chante face à l’océan en grattant sa guitare.

Corey Diamond a plus de vingt ans d’expérience à la tête d’organisations de changement social axées sur la mobilisation des gens pour passer à l’action sur des questions environnementales et sociales critiques.
Auparavant, il a été chef des opérations et associé de la firme d’experts-conseils mondiale Realized Worth, une firme dédiée à la conception et à la mise en œuvre de programmes de bénévolat et de dons dans les entreprises. Responsable du développement des affaires et des opérations, Cory a travaillé avec des entreprises figurant au palmarès FORTUNE500 (dont Apple, Deloitte, AT&T et SAP) partout dans le monde pour engager leurs employés dans des projets communautaires cruciaux et durables.
Corey a également contribué pendant 10 ans à la direction de Summerhill, une firme nationale qui mobilise le public sur des questions de comportements éconergétiques. Il y a occupé divers postes, dont ceux de président/transformateur en chef, de responsable de l’expansion aux États-Unis et de directeur général de la division à but non lucratif. Il a travaillé avec des sociétés de services publics, des agences gouvernementales et des entreprises du secteur privé pour réaliser d’importantes économies d’énergie à la grandeur du Canada.
Corey siège bénévolement à divers conseils d’administration et comités. Lecteur avide, collectionneur de disques et musicien, il se passionne pour la sylvothérapie et les voyages à travers le monde avec sa famille.

Aidan Djabarov est spécialiste des communications à Efficacité énergétique Canada. Elle a fait des études de premier cycle en sciences politiques, en histoire et en études américaines, et un certificat d’études supérieures en relations publiques et communications d’entreprise au Collège Seneca. Depuis qu’elle a entamé sa carrière professionnelle, Aidan a travaillé dans les domaines du divertissement, des organismes sans but lucratif et de l’éducation, ces expériences variées lui ayant permis d’acquérir un large éventail de compétences en communications, réseaux sociaux et marketing. Elle est ravie d’appliquer ses talents pour promouvoir l’efficacité énergétique et avoir un impact réel sur les communautés canadiennes et le monde en général. James Gaede

Au cours des 10 dernières années, James a mené des recherches sur les politiques énergétiques et environnementales ainsi que sur l’opinion publique, grâce à deux bourses postdoctorales et des postes d’associé de recherche aux Universités York, Wilfrid Laurier et Waterloo comme consultant indépendant. Il a également été membre de deux réseaux pancanadiens de recherche dans le domaine de l’énergie, a préparé plusieurs demandes de subvention de recherche retenues et a été consultant technique et organisationnel auprès de nombreuses associations universitaires.
James a obtenu un doctorat en sciences politiques de l’Université Carleton en 2014, où il s’est spécialisé en politique comparée et en relations internationales. Sa thèse de doctorat portait sur la politique de visualisation de l’avenir de l’énergie durable, en particulier sur la controverse entourant les prévisions d’approvisionnement en pétrole de l’Agence internationale de l’énergie au début des années 2000.
Parmi les sujets sur lesquels James a écrit et publié depuis, figurent le captage et le stockage du carbone, la politique en matière de biocarburants, l’efficacité énergétique et le stockage d’énergie.

Brendan Haley

Brendan a aidé à lancer Efficacité énergétique Canada, dont il guide à présent les recherches et les efforts axés sur la défense des politiques. Brendan est titulaire d’un doctorat en politiques publiques de l’Université Carleton où il a mené son travail de recherche en utilisant l’économie et les systèmes politiques des cadres d’innovation pour comprendre le rôle des secteurs des ressources naturelles traditionnelles dans la transition du Canada vers une économie sobre en carbone. Il s’est vu décerner une prestigieuse bourse d’études postdoctorale Banting en 2016-2018, et est titulaire d’une maîtrise en études environnementales de l’Université York et d’un baccalauréat ès sciences en économie de l’Université Dalhousie.
Il est un associé expert en politiques de l’Institut Broadbent et a publié des rapports sur les politiques publiques pour l’Institut pour l’IntelliProspérité, le Centre canadien de politiques alternatives, l’Institut Pembina et l’American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy. Brendan a commencé à défendre les politiques d’efficacité énergétique pendant qu’il travaillait au Centre d’action écologique de la Nouvelle-Écosse, où il est devenu le principal catalyseur derrière la création d’Efficacité Nouvelle-Écosse, le premier service public du Canada dédié à l’efficacité énergétique.

Abhi aide depuis une décennie des communautés aux États-Unis et au Canada à utiliser à réaliser des priorités locales notamment en améliorant le logement, en augmentant les « bons emplois » et en réduisant la pauvreté.
Son approche communautaire de l’énergie propre, de l’engagement citoyen et du renforcement des capacités lui a valu une large reconnaissance, notamment l’inscription au palmarès 40 Under 40 Energy Leaders de Midwest Energy News et un prix dans le cadre du concours J’ai une histoire à raconter du CRSH. Dans une vie antérieure, il a optimisé les opérations des réseaux électriques (baccalauréat en électrotechnique), surveillé des objets de passage dans le ciel nocturne (maîtrise en physique), développé des algorithmes de l’intelligence artificielle pour de microréseaux intelligents (maîtrise en informatique) et amené un réseau d’organisations ayant un impact social de Houghton (MI) à la finale d’un concours national d’efficacité énergétique communautaire. Il prépare actuellement à l’Université de Guelph un doctorat en géographique dont la thèse porte sur la #Rénovationénergétique des bâtiments au Canada.
En dehors du travail, Abhi adore dessiner des carates pour aider les gens des (nombreuses) villes d’adoption pour approfondir leur sentiment d’appartenance avec les endroits où ils sont établis.

Passionate about social, economic, and environmental justice, Stefanie brings a wealth of experience from advocacy and grassroots organizing. Outside of work, she volunteers with various non-profits, championing causes that align with her commitment to creating a fairer, more sustainable world.
In her free time, Stefanie enjoys walks with her chihuahua, petting her cats, collecting vinyl records, and finding neat treasures at the local thrift stores.

With over twenty-five years of progressive executive experience in project, finance, network and event management, in university, not-for-profit and hospitality settings, Shirley tried to retire. When that attempt wasn’t successful, she joined the Efficiency Canada team in a part time capacity as Financial Support in the Operations department.
Outside of work, she is a long-time volunteer with Toastmasters International, a nonprofit educational organization supporting communication and leadership development. Most recently she has taken on the roles of the District 61 Public Relations Manager and President of the Management Development for Women Toastmasters Club.
In her free time, Shirley enjoys golf, travelling, writing, spending time at the lake with friends, and learning new languages.

Lorne Johnson

Lorne has more than 20 years of experience in forging collaborative solutions to sustainability challenges in Canada. He has established a reputation as someone who brings enthusiasm, humour and a solid dose of pragmatism while getting things done.
Early in his career, Lorne played a leadership role in establishing the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) in Canada including facilitating stakeholder negotiations for several regional standards processes, serving as a board member and chair, and acting as the Executive Director while overseeing the redesign of the organization’s business strategy and revenue model.
During his ten-year term with World Wildlife Fund Canada (1998 and 2007), Lorne established and led partnerships with several forest products companies. In his final years with WWF, he led the organization’s federal government relations efforts as their Ottawa Bureau Director focusing on climate change and oceans conservation.
Lorne has served in a variety of governance roles and was a founding director of the Clean Economy Fund (a focused collaborative of philanthropic foundations), the co-chair of the Cornerstone Standards Council and a member of the Governing Council of Efficiency Canada. He has headed up a number of organizations over the years including FSC Canada, Cornerstone Standards Council and the Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement Secretariat.
In addition to his work with the Ivey Foundation, Lorne is an advisor to the conservation granting program of the Schad Foundation. He lives in Ottawa with his wife, Nathalie Chalifour, and two children. He is an avid painter, angler, hunter and paddler. He has aspirations of spending less time on conference calls and more time outdoors.

James Meadowcroft

James Meadowcroft holds a Canada Research Chair in Governance for Sustainable Development. He is a Professor in both the Department of Political Science and the School of Public Policy and Administration. His research is focused on the ways governments are adjusting their practices and policies to cope with the emergence of problems of the environment and sustainable development. Meadowcroft has written widely on environmental politics and policy, democratic participation and deliberative democracy, national sustainable development strategies, and socio- technical transitions. Recent work focuses on energy and the transition to a low carbon society, and includes publications on carbon capture and storage (CCS), smart grids, the development of Ontario’s electricity system, the politics of socio-technical transitions, and negative carbon emissions. He co-edited the first international comparative study of the politics and policy of CCS (Caching the Carbon, Edward Elgar, 2009). Meadowcroft’s research has been funded by the UK ERSC, SSHRC, NSERC and Carbon Management Canada. He has supervised PhD students working on a variety of environment and energy-related topics including North American air pollution, the politics of biofuels, decarbonization pathways and energy futures.
Meadowcroft is currently co-lead, with Hayley Stevenson (University of Sheffield), on an international research project on Ecosystem services: valuing nature for sustainable development and a green economy, which is being funded by the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, the Wellcome Trust and the VolkswagenStiftung. Another initiative is the ‘Taskforce on conceptual foundations of earth system governance’, an international research network (linked to the Earth System Governance project and Future Earth) which is interrogating key ideas that are being formulated to orient global governance of environmental issues (for example: ‘the Anthropocene’, ‘sustainability science’ or ‘green democracy’). In collaboration with Peter Feindt (Wageningen) and Andreas Duit (Stockholm) he recently edited a special issue of Environmental Politics focused on the Environmental State. Meadowcroft has served as co-editor of the International Political Science Review (1999-2007) and Associate Editor of the Journal of Political Ideologies (2006-). He holds an honorary doctorate from the University Tampere in Finland.

Danielle Wensink

With more than 25 years of experience in the energy industry, Danielle has held progressive leadership roles in the alternative energy and utility sectors. She began her career at Canadian fuel cell pioneer Ballard Power Systems, spending nearly a decade there in marketing and communications roles before joining Terasen Gas (now FortisBC).
Danielle’s initial roles at FortisBC were customer service focused. A particularly proud achievement was being on the leadership team that transitioned the company’s gas utility customer service delivery from an outsourced model to a new in-house, in-province department. Today, she is honoured to lead FortisBC’s award-winning Conservation and Energy Management team, delivering energy efficiency programs to electricity and gas customers across British Columbia. Energy efficiency has a long history at FortisBC and plays a key role in the company’s goal to reduce customers’ greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent by the year 2030. Established in 2019, this 30BY30 milestone tracks FortisBC’s progress in support of decarbonization and the transition towards renewable energy. Danielle and her team are proud to contribute to this goal and have more than doubled gas energy savings and associated carbon emission reductions through their programs since 2018. They are passionate about enhancing energy efficiency and conservation awareness for FortisBC customers throughout the province.
Raised in Southern Ontario, Danielle has lived in British Columbia for many years and considers both provinces home. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia. Outside of work, Danielle enjoys spending time with family and friends and keeping active with running, yoga and paddle boarding. Danielle lives in South Surrey with her husband and daughter.

Yasmin is Co-Founder of Kambo Energy Group and the visionary behind Empower Me, Canada’s only energy and climate focused program designed for, and delivered by, members of underserved communities. Under Yasmin’s leadership, Kambo has become a leader and advocate for the inclusion of lower income families in climate policies, specifically advocating for supports for families experiencing energy poverty. Kambo’s Community Power division is dedicated exclusively to reducing energy poverty and improving housing conditions in Indigenous communities.
Yasmin is a leading expert in equity-based energy and climate programming, working with governments and utilities across Canada to design and deliver inclusive solutions.
Yasmin has assembled an employee roster representative of the communities they serve – 83% identify as visible minority, immigrant and/or multilingual, and 59% of employees are female.

Sandra Crocker

Sandra Crocker was appointed to the newly created position of Associate Vice-President in May 2011. Reporting to the Vice-President (Research & International) she is part of the senior management group responsible for planning, developing and implementing a comprehensive research support strategy for Carleton.
Ms. Crocker has an accomplished career in research administration, most recently holding positions at McGill University as Assistant Vice-Principal (Strategic Planning and Partnerships) in the Office of the Vice-Principal (Research and International Relations). Prior to this she had a long career at Queen’s University culminating as Associate Vice-Principal (Research).
Sandra has served on the Board of Directors of the BioCap Canada Foundation, Insect Biotec Canada Inc., the Kingston Technology Council and the Ontario Centre of Excellence for Communications and Information Technology. She served as the President of the Kingston Technology Exchange Centre, a not-for-profit research incubator, and as Chair of the Eastern Lake Ontario Regional Innovation Network. More recently she has joined the Board of Directors of The Consortia Advancing Standards in Research Administration Information (CASRAI) as well as the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory Institute, The Board of Directors of CARIC, the AIAC Technology and Innovation Committee and served on the Research Advisory Committee of CANARIE and as Chair of the National Research Council’s Construction Research Centre Advisory Board. She also volunteers as a Board member of the Ottawa Olde Forge Community Resource Centre.

Philippe brings 25+ years of experience focused on a singular passion: helping his clients accelerate the clean energy transition. In the process, he has had the honour of leading a first-rate team of professionals, and the privilege of supporting forward-looking governments, utilities, businesses and non-profits throughout North America.
Philippe’s experience spans the full array of demand-side energy resources: from building efficiency to demand response, renewable energy, storage and clean mobility. He has designed plans and programs, developed leading-edge policies for governments and others, assessed the potential – technical, economic and achievable – of solutions across vast markets, and advised on evaluation, cost-effectiveness frameworks and a host of other issues. Among his more enjoyable endeavours: designing public policies and market strategies, brainstorming with the team on methodology, helping clients tackle complex problems, translating findings into a clear narrative, testifying at regulatory hearings, public speaking, and serving on the boards of organizations with a public purpose.
He is currently Co-chair of Efficiency Canada, among other positions.

Marisse is a third-year Interactive Multimedia and Design student at Carleton University. She has a strong passion for design, and her university experience has provided her with a solid understanding of design principles, motion graphics, audio and video production, and technical proficiency in various coding languages.
Prior to joining Efficiency Canada, Marisse worked as a graphic design intern for the Canadian Film Institute, where she worked closely with the communications team to design merchandise and promotional material such as posters and brochures to advertise screenings and events taking place at the 2024 Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF). She was also responsible for designing the 2024 OIAF program guide and ensuring that designs aligned with the festival’s brand.
Outside of work, you’ll find Marisse reading, playing various instruments, and spending time with her dog Bella.

Emma Cantlon

Emma Cantlon is a Media and Communications Intern at Efficiency Canada. She is a fourth-year student at Carleton University, majoring in Political Science, minoring in Environmental Humanities, and concentrating in International Relations.
Emma has previously interned in communications and policy positions in the government. Her education and work experience have given her valuable insights into the intersections of communication, policy, and sustainability. Now, she’s excited to apply these skills to a role in an organization focused on sustainable energy. Emma’s dedication to studying environmental issues and her eagerness to work in sustainable energy highlights her determination to contribute to a more sustainable future.

Betsy Agar

Having been licensed in Ontario as a building science engineer before building science was cool, Betsy has drawn on her technical background advocating for building decarbonization and adaptation over the last 10+ years. Born and raised in Ontario, she moved her family to North Vancouver nearly 15 years ago and now calls both provinces home. Betsy is grateful for the privilege of living, working and playing on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples.

Kelsey Brasil

Biography
Kelsey Brasil is Director of Project Management Lead at Efficiency Canada. Originally from Ontario, she fell in love with Halifax studying Sustainability and Planning at Dalhousie University, and has made a second home on the east coast. Prior to this role, Kelsey spearheaded the development of Efficiency Canada’s Career Hub — a one stop shop for people to find training, networking events, mentors, and ultimately their dream job!
Kelsey’s career in energy efficiency kicked off managing Efficiency Nova Scotia’s community outreach program, Green Schools NS — connecting students to Energy efficiency behaviours they can adopt to protect our Earth. Energy efficiency quickly became a career focus once she saw the ways it empowers youth to take action, helps Canadians save money and afford their bills, and the solutions it brings to the climate crisis.
In her free time, you can find Kelsey in the woods camping, rock climbing, or having a dance party with her sisters.

Corey Diamond

Biography
Corey has more than two decades of experience leading social change organizations focused on engaging people to take action on critical environmental and social issues.
Corey was previously the COO and Partner of global consulting firm, Realized Worth, a company focused on the design and implementation of corporate volunteering and giving programs. Managing the business development and operations, Corey worked with FORTUNE500 companies (including Apple, Deloitte, AT&T and SAP) around the world to engage their employees in critical and sustained community projects.
Corey also spent 10 years helping to lead Summerhill, a national firm focused on engaging the public on energy efficiency behaviours. Holding various positions, including President/Chief Transformer, U.S. expansion lead and Executive Director of the non-for-profit arm, Corey worked with utilities, government agencies and the private sector to drive significant energy savings across Canada.
Corey volunteers his time on a number of boards and committees. An avid reader, record collector and musician, his greatest passion is hugging trees and travelling the world with his family.

Natasha Daniel
Workforce Development Program Manager
Biography
Natasha Daniel has devoted the past 15 years to contributing to Ontario’s arts and culture sector, excelling in marketing and public relations. She has been honoured by the United Nations for her impactful work supporting equity-seeking communities in Medellin, Colombia and South India, as well as Toronto’s Malvern and Jane-Finch neighbourhoods. Her non-fiction writing and photo essays have been featured in VICE, ELLE magazine, and Canadian Living. Currently, she is driving efforts to promote decarbonization in workforce development at Efficiency Canada.

Aidan Djabarov

Aidan Djabarov is a Communications Specialist at Efficiency Canada. Her undergraduate studies were in Political Science, History, and American Studies and she completed a post-graduate certification in Public Relations/Corporate Communications at Seneca College.
Since beginning her professional career, Aidan has worked in entertainment, non-profit, and education – with these diverse experiences allowing her to develop an expansive array of skills across communications, social media, and marketing. She’s excited to apply her skillset to advocating for energy efficiency and making a real impact on Canadian communities and the world at large.
Outside of work, Aidan enjoys frequent trips to the local library to stock up on new books and studying multiple languages in her pursuit to become a polyglot.

James Gaede

Biography
For the past 10 years, James has conducted research on energy and environmental politics and public opinion in Canada through a variety of capacities, including two postdoctoral fellowships, research associate positions at York University, Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Waterloo, and as an independent consultant. He has also been a member of two cross-Canadian energy-related research networks, prepared several successful research grant applications, and served as organizational and technical consultant at multiple academic associations.
James received is PhD in Political Science from Carleton University in 2014, where he specialized in comparative politics and international relations. His doctoral dissertation focused on the politics of visualizing the future for sustainable energy, looking specifically at controversy surrounding oil supply forecasts by the International Energy Agency in the early 2000s. Some of the topics James has written and published on since include carbon capture and storage, biofuel policy, energy efficiency, and energy storage.

Emilie Grenier

Biography
Emilie (she/her) is the Engagement Manager at Efficiency Canada.
Emilie holds a Masters of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership, as well as a B.A. in International Law and International Relations. She has spent the past five years advocating for sustainable land use planning, active transportation, and renewable energy. Above all else, Emilie hopes to help build community in the nonprofit sector.
Outside of work, Emilie spends a lot of time figuring out how to be less cold during her backcountry skiing and ice climbing adventures.

Brendan Haley

Biography
Brendan helped launch Efficiency Canada, where he now guides research and policy advocacy efforts. He brings a proven record in energy policy entrepreneurship and thought leadership.
Brendan has a PhD in Public Policy from Carleton University where his research used political economy and systems of innovation frameworks to understand the role of traditional natural resource sectors in Canada’s low-carbon transition. He was awarded a prestigious Banting Post-Doctoral Fellowship in 2016-2018 and holds a Master of Environmental Studies from York University and a BSc in Economics from Dalhousie University.
He is a policy fellow with the Broadbent Institute and has published public policy reports with the Smart Prosperity Institute, the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, the Pembina Institute, and the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy. He has taught courses and lectured in energy efficiency policy, and socio-political dimensions of environmental management, political activism, and green industrial policy. In October 2022, Brendan Haley was given the position of Adjunct Research Professor at Carleton’s School of Public Policy and Administration, giving him more opportunity to involve himself in academics.
Brendan got his start in energy efficiency policy advocacy while working at Nova Scotia’s Ecology Action Centre, where he became the principal catalyst behind the creation of Canada’s first energy efficiency utility, Efficiency Nova Scotia.

Imran Kaderdina

Biography
Imran has spent over a decade managing the finances of organizations, in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors. As Finance Manager and worker-owner, he helped La Siembra Workers’ Cooperative eliminate a substantial deficit to achieve positive equity for the first time in over a dozen years.
His passion for finance and governance comes from a desire to find a better way to do things. Imran has used his skills to chair the Real Food, Real Jobs Coalition; a coalition that helped Aramark food service workers win a $15 minimum wage. He is also past Vice-Chair of Fairtrade Canada, co-founder and chair of the Sustainable Purchasing Coalition, and co-founder of Reclaim the Beautiful Game. Currently, Imran is a CPA Ontario student working to get his CPA designation.

Abhilash Kantamneni

Biography
Abhi has a decade of experience helping communities across US and Canada use clean and efficient energy to achieve local priorities including improving housing, increasing ‘good jobs’ and reducing poverty.
His community-based approach to clean energy, civic engagement and capacity building has earned him wide recognition including being named a ‘40 Under 40 Energy Leader’ by the Midwest Energy News and a Canada Storyteller Award by SSHRC-CRSH. In an earlier life, he optimized power system operations (B.E, Electrical Engineering), tracked transient objects in the night sky (MS Physics), developed AI algorithms for smart microgrids (MS Computer Science), and led a network of social impact organizations in Houghton (MI) into the finals of a national community energy-efficiency competition. Currently he is completing his PhD in Geography at the University of Guelph researching the governance of building #EnergyRetrofits in Canada.
Outside of work, Abhi enjoys making maps to help people in his (many) hometown(s) deepen their sense of belonging with the places they call home.

Carol Maas

Biography
Carol has a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and Society and a Masters of Applied Science. After years of working in the water innovation sector as a professional engineer, she pivoted to the world of policy research. Her work on water efficiency influenced both local water plans and provincial legislation and as a result she was appointed to the board of an Ontario technology accelerator. Carol then bridged the water and energy sectors, authoring the first report of its kind in Canada to quantify the water-energy nexus. Carol’s efficiency work was inspired by energy efficiency guru Amory Lovins, and the belief that “efficiency is the best new source” of water or energy.
After taking a sabbatical to spend time with her son, working with a local HVAC company inspired a passion for heat pumps and energy efficiency in the residential sector. In 2023, Carol joined Efficiency Canada to apply her knowledge of the HVAC sector, efficiency and policy research to investigate home performance business models in the Canadian context. She now spends her days researching residential energy efficiency retrofits, home performance and house-as-a-system concepts as well as the contractors and consultants that offer these services.
She values family, camping, forest walks with friends, paddleboarding and any time spent on the lake and a good laugh.

Shirley McKey

Biography
With over twenty-five years of progressive executive experience in project, finance, network and event management, in university, not-for-profit and hospitality settings, Shirley tried to retire. When that attempt wasn’t successful, she joined the Efficiency Canada team in a part time capacity as Financial Support in the Operations department.
Outside of work, she is a long-time volunteer with Toastmasters International, a nonprofit educational organization supporting communication and leadership development. Most recently she has taken on the roles of the District 61 Public Relations Manager and President of the Management Development for Women Toastmasters Club.
In her free time, Shirley enjoys golf, travelling, writing, spending time at the lake with friends, and learning new languages.

Alyssa Nippard

Biography
Alyssa is a Provincial Policy Analyst at Efficiency Canada and is passionate about sustainability. Prior to her academic and professional pursuits, Alyssa was on a path of self-driven research aimed at implementing solutions to lessen her environmental impact. Now, as a member of our Policy Team, she employs this same curiosity in examining energy efficiency efforts across provinces.
Prior to joining Efficiency Canada, Alyssa worked in commercial and industrial energy management where she supported clients through climate action planning, emissions quantification and energy conservation goals.
Energy efficiency became a key interest while attending the University of Regina where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies and developed an interdisciplinary perspective on current ecological issues.
Outside of work you might find Alyssa trying a new baking recipe (with varying degrees of success), volunteering for the local cat rescue, or on a trip somewhere meandering through a market.

Sarah Riddell

Biography
Sarah is the Policy Research Associate, Clean Heat at Efficiency Canada. Prior to joining Efficiency Canada, she worked in commercial energy management, working to decarbonize federal buildings in British Columbia and the Yukon.
Sarah has a BSc. in Agricultural and Environmental Economics from McGill University, with a particular interest in the economics of climate change.
Sarah is LEED AP Operations and Maintenance accredited and is currently completing courses towards BCIT’s Sustainable Energy Management Advanced Certificate.
Outside of work, Sarah enjoys baking gluten-free sourdough, going for long walks in nature and checking out different zero-waste stores.

Gillian Wesley

Gillian has more than a decade of experience using strategic communications to drive real-world change. She has worked with coalition groups, partners, and stakeholders, and led dynamic, highly collaborative teams to develop local, provincial and national communications products and campaigns that have secured a range of environmental protections, from more and stronger MPAs to more ambitious GHG emissions reductions targets.
During her tenure as strategic communications manager at the Ecology Action Centre, she contributed to Canada’s largest survey of environmental supporters in collaboration with 12 of the country’s most prominent environmental groups.
Gillian is passionate about helping train the next generation of science communicators. She has provided mentorship and professional development opportunities to students from universities and professional programs at various stages of their learning journey.
Gillian volunteers her time advocating for permanent, accessible, dignified and safe housing for persons experiencing homelessness. She is an avid long-distance runner and enjoys traveling with her family and experiencing different food, culture, and languages. At Efficiency Canada, Valerie leverages her social media expertise to connect advocates and policymakers with research that supports Canada’s transition to a more sustainable, energy-efficient future.

Lorne Johnson

Biography
Lorne has more than 20 years of experience in forging collaborative solutions to sustainability challenges in Canada. He has established a reputation as someone who brings enthusiasm, humour and a solid dose of pragmatism while getting things done.
Early in his career, Lorne played a leadership role in establishing the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) in Canada including facilitating stakeholder negotiations for several regional standards processes, serving as a board member and chair, and acting as the Executive Director while overseeing the redesign of the organization’s business strategy and revenue model.
During his ten-year term with World Wildlife Fund Canada (1998 and 2007), Lorne established and led partnerships with several forest products companies. In his final years with WWF, he led the organization’s federal government relations efforts as their Ottawa Bureau Director focusing on climate change and oceans conservation.
Lorne has served in a variety of governance roles and was a founding director of the Clean Economy Fund (a focused collaborative of philanthropic foundations), the co-chair of the Cornerstone Standards Council and a member of the Governing Council of Efficiency Canada. He has headed up a number of organizations over the years including FSC Canada, Cornerstone Standards Council and the Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement Secretariat.
In addition to his work with the Ivey Foundation, Lorne is an advisor to the conservation granting program of the Schad Foundation. He lives in Ottawa with his wife, Nathalie Chalifour, and two children. He is an avid painter, angler, hunter and paddler. He has aspirations of spending less time on conference calls and more time outdoors.

James Meadowcroft

James Meadowcroft holds a Canada Research Chair in Governance for Sustainable Development. He is a Professor in both the Department of Political Science and the School of Public Policy and Administration. His research is focused on the ways governments are adjusting their practices and policies to cope with the emergence of problems of the environment and sustainable development. Meadowcroft has written widely on environmental politics and policy, democratic participation and deliberative democracy, national sustainable development strategies, and socio- technical transitions. Recent work focuses on energy and the transition to a low carbon society, and includes publications on carbon capture and storage (CCS), smart grids, the development of Ontario’s electricity system, the politics of socio-technical transitions, and negative carbon emissions. He co-edited the first international comparative study of the politics and policy of CCS (Caching the Carbon, Edward Elgar, 2009). Meadowcroft’s research has been funded by the UK ERSC, SSHRC, NSERC and Carbon Management Canada. He has supervised PhD students working on a variety of environment and energy-related topics including North American air pollution, the politics of biofuels, decarbonization pathways and energy futures.
Meadowcroft is currently co-lead, with Hayley Stevenson (University of Sheffield), on an international research project on Ecosystem services: valuing nature for sustainable development and a green economy, which is being funded by the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, the Wellcome Trust and the VolkswagenStiftung. Another initiative is the ‘Taskforce on conceptual foundations of earth system governance’, an international research network (linked to the Earth System Governance project and Future Earth) which is interrogating key ideas that are being formulated to orient global governance of environmental issues (for example: ‘the Anthropocene’, ‘sustainability science’ or ‘green democracy’). In collaboration with Peter Feindt (Wageningen) and Andreas Duit (Stockholm) he recently edited a special issue of Environmental Politics focused on the Environmental State. Meadowcroft has served as co-editor of the International Political Science Review (1999-2007) and Associate Editor of the Journal of Political Ideologies (2006-). He holds an honorary doctorate from the University Tampere in Finland.

Danielle Wensink

With more than 25 years of experience in the energy industry, Danielle has held progressive leadership roles in the alternative energy and utility sectors. She began her career at Canadian fuel cell pioneer Ballard Power Systems, spending nearly a decade there in marketing and communications roles before joining Terasen Gas (now FortisBC).
Danielle’s initial roles at FortisBC were customer service focused. A particularly proud achievement was being on the leadership team that transitioned the company’s gas utility customer service delivery from an outsourced model to a new in-house, in-province department. Today, she is honoured to lead FortisBC’s award-winning Conservation and Energy Management team, delivering energy efficiency programs to electricity and gas customers across British Columbia. Energy efficiency has a long history at FortisBC and plays a key role in the company’s goal to reduce customers’ greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent by the year 2030. Established in 2019, this 30BY30 milestone tracks FortisBC’s progress in support of decarbonization and the transition towards renewable energy. Danielle and her team are proud to contribute to this goal and have more than doubled gas energy savings and associated carbon emission reductions through their programs since 2018. They are passionate about enhancing energy efficiency and conservation awareness for FortisBC customers throughout the province.
Raised in Southern Ontario, Danielle has lived in British Columbia for many years and considers both provinces home. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia. Outside of work, Danielle enjoys spending time with family and friends and keeping active with running, yoga and paddle boarding. Danielle lives in South Surrey with her husband and daughter.

Yasmin Abraham

Yasmin is Co-Founder of Kambo Energy Group and the visionary behind Empower Me, Canada’s only energy and climate focused program designed for, and delivered by, members of underserved communities. Under Yasmin’s leadership, Kambo has become a leader and advocate for the inclusion of lower income families in climate policies, specifically advocating for supports for families experiencing energy poverty. Kambo’s Community Power division is dedicated exclusively to reducing energy poverty and improving housing conditions in Indigenous communities.
Yasmin is a leading expert in equity-based energy and climate programming, working with governments and utilities across Canada to design and deliver inclusive solutions.
Yasmin has assembled an employee roster representative of the communities they serve – 83% identify as visible minority, immigrant and/or multilingual, and 59% of employees are female.

Sandra Crocker

Sandra Crocker was appointed to the newly created position of Associate Vice-President in May 2011. Reporting to the Vice-President (Research & International) she is part of the senior management group responsible for planning, developing and implementing a comprehensive research support strategy for Carleton.
Ms. Crocker has an accomplished career in research administration, most recently holding positions at McGill University as Assistant Vice-Principal (Strategic Planning and Partnerships) in the Office of the Vice-Principal (Research and International Relations). Prior to this she had a long career at Queen’s University culminating as Associate Vice-Principal (Research).
Sandra has served on the Board of Directors of the BioCap Canada Foundation, Insect Biotec Canada Inc., the Kingston Technology Council and the Ontario Centre of Excellence for Communications and Information Technology. She served as the President of the Kingston Technology Exchange Centre, a not-for-profit research incubator, and as Chair of the Eastern Lake Ontario Regional Innovation Network. More recently she has joined the Board of Directors of The Consortia Advancing Standards in Research Administration Information (CASRAI) as well as the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory Institute, The Board of Directors of CARIC, the AIAC Technology and Innovation Committee and served on the Research Advisory Committee of CANARIE and as Chair of the National Research Council’s Construction Research Centre Advisory Board. She also volunteers as a Board member of the Ottawa Olde Forge Community Resource Centre.

Philippe Dunsky

Philippe brings 25+ years of experience focused on a singular passion: helping his clients accelerate the clean energy transition. In the process, he has had the honour of leading a first-rate team of professionals, and the privilege of supporting forward-looking governments, utilities, businesses and non-profits throughout North America.
Philippe’s experience spans the full array of demand-side energy resources: from building efficiency to demand response, renewable energy, storage and clean mobility. He has designed plans and programs, developed leading-edge policies for governments and others, assessed the potential – technical, economic and achievable – of solutions across vast markets, and advised on evaluation, cost-effectiveness frameworks and a host of other issues. Among his more enjoyable endeavours: designing public policies and market strategies, brainstorming with the team on methodology, helping clients tackle complex problems, translating findings into a clear narrative, testifying at regulatory hearings, public speaking, and serving on the boards of organizations with a public purpose.
He is currently Co-chair of Efficiency Canada, among other positions.

Marisse Charette

Biography
Marisse is a third-year Interactive Multimedia and Design student at Carleton University. She has a strong passion for design, and her university experience has provided her with a solid understanding of design principles, motion graphics, audio and video production, and technical proficiency in various coding languages.
Prior to joining Efficiency Canada, Marisse worked as a graphic design intern for the Canadian Film Institute, where she worked closely with the communications team to design merchandise and promotional material such as posters and brochures to advertise screenings and events taking place at the 2024 Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF). She was also responsible for designing the 2024 OIAF program guide and ensuring that designs aligned with the festival’s brand.

Emma Cantlon

Emma Cantlon is a Media and Communications Intern at Efficiency Canada. She is a fourth-year student at Carleton University, majoring in Political Science, minoring in Environmental Humanities, and concentrating in International Relations.
Emma has previously interned in communications and policy positions in the government. Her education and work experience have given her valuable insights into the intersections of communication, policy, and sustainability. Now, she’s excited to apply these skills to a role in an organization focused on sustainable energy. Emma’s dedication to studying environmental issues and her eagerness to work in sustainable energy highlights her determination to contribute to a more sustainable future.
